Courtenay's Fundraising at Zip World London

Courtenay Mulls 30th September 2017 This event has closed

Story

On February 20th 2017, my Mum passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a short but determined battle with cancer.  For those that didn't have the pleasure of meeting my Mum, Jan Anthony, she was an incredible lady.  I know most sons would say that of their mother, but she really was.  She did so much voluntary work without ever asking for any credit or self-recognition.  She was a devoted and selfless mother and wife, raising four children along side all of her voluntary work.  She will be forever missed and never forgotten.

In Mum's final days, she was cared for by the wonderful staff at St Wilfrid's Hospice in Eastbourne.  She did not suffer and passed away as peacefully as one can thanks to their incredible efforts.

It costs £11,000 per day to run St Wilfrid's Hospice.  That equates to around £750 per room, per day.  The Hospice is almost entirely funded by us, the general public.  Without our kindness and generosity, they simply wouldn't exist.  So far we've raised £1,450.00 for St Wilfrid's Hospice since Mum's passing which is fabulous but hopefully only the beginning.

So what are we doing?  On Saturday 30th September, 10 of us will heading to Zip World in London to take on the world's fastest and longest city zip wire.  Personally, I can't wait but there are those in our group with height and fear issues which makes this is big challenge.  The fact that they're doing it for the memory of my Mum and for the good of St Wilfrid's Hospice is just mind-blowing!

So please, dig deep.  It's a cause very dear to my heart and one that I hope my friends and family will support.

Thanks for the contributions so far. So an update on where we are presently. Things have changed a little. We're now travelling to Zip World London instead of Zip World Wales which saves us a 5 hour drive to the Snowdonia region. I am reliably informed via the interweb that the Zip World London site is the fastest and longest city Zip Wire in the World!!!!! So the challenge remains basically the same. There are 10 of us booked in and possibly more to follow. The real fundraising push starts now.
